The goals of the school of Public Health are to train specialists in postgraduate fields of health and health-related sciences, to do field studies on the country’s health problems, to devise necessary executive plans, and to cooperate with national and international organizations (e.g. Kurdistan region of Iraq).
The field of public health is inherently multidisciplinary. So, too, are the interests and expertise of the School’s faculty, students, and researchers, which extend across the biological, quantitative, and social sciences. With our roots in the basic sciences, we are able to confront the most pressing diseases of our time—AIDS, cancer, and heart disease—by adding to our knowledge of the biological, chemical, genetic, and social-economic forces underlying disease. In addition, core quantitative disciplines like epidemiology and biostatistics are fundamental to analyzing the broad impact of health problems, allowing us to look beyond individuals to entire populations. Consequently, the aims are to gain; create and advance knowledge and its translation into discoveries, understanding of how health care affects the global economy and government policies, management skills and health economics; to learn about how psychological and sociological issues affect healthcare research and practices, a broad knowledge of biological and chemical sciences, deliver an evidence-based educational experience to prepare students, and etc.
